waconah park is one of the only few baseball stadiums in the nation that still face the west and many famous players have played there including frank grant, mark belanger, carlton fisk and bill lee

once pitched at waconah park in pittsfield against st joseph in 1981 loaded the bases with walks at the top of the 12th inning and st joseph's tried a squeeze play on a 3 ball 2 strike count as the third base coach called out my last name which i had thought was an automatic out - threw the bunt to our catcher, 'bones', but the man from 3rd slid safely into home under the tag so 'bones' kneels on the kid while i tell the ump the third base coach called my name but he just shook his head that he didn't hear it and we end the game in a brawl - just like the 1934 st louis cardinals !

btw if any of your teams are missing aluminum thumper baseball bats from that year possibly certain members of our team would allegedly pick them up from the opposing side at the end of the game when we lined up to shake hands we wound up with about 10 extra bats at the end of the year our team got caught at the end of the season and had to give them back
